Japan to clear waste material with combustion power plants

Japan will build five new wood combustion power plants in Iwate and Miyagi to clear left-over rubble from the March 11 earthquake.

The Iwate and Miyagi areas are left with 20 and 30 million tons of waste material, of which about 5 million tons is wood.

Over 3,000 homes will receive power generated by the planned power plants, which are expected to produce about 10MW of power per year.

There are palns for the government to subsidise these projects, which have a high cost of operations compared to the other wind or solar facilities. .
