Singapore PowerGrid to work with Telvent for outage management

The project is set to reduce service disruptions and associated costs caused by power outages.

Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced last 14 June that Singapore PowerGrid (SPPG) has selected to work with Telvent on implementing the next generation of GIS and outage management technology. With multiple Telvent solutions paired with Esri South Asia and Microsoft platforms, SPPG will be able to reduce service disruptions and associated costs caused by power outages.

SPPG will integrate Telvent’s Responder Outage Management System (OMS) with its ArcFM Enterprise GIS. This will assist the utility with not only sustaining its excellent System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) record, but also with the management of its daily operations for the Energy Utilities Network. SPPG will now be equipped with an improved outage management system that is smart grid ready. Telvent’s Responder solution is built upon the Microsoft platform, using Microsoft SQL Server and the Windows 7 operating system to provide seamless integration, lower cost of ownership, tighter security and increased productivity.

SPPG conducted its search for a system that was large enough to meet its growing infrastructure and found that Telvent’s broad integration and ability to control was the right fit for its operations. Telvent’s proven expertise in the smart grid arena also contributed to its selection to help expand the nation’s smart grid initiatives.

According to Telvent's chairman and CEO and chairman, Ignacio Gonzalez, “As a leading smart grid solutions provider, we are pleased to be working with Singapore PowerGrid on this effort. Our selection by such a highly regarded utility affirms that Telvent has the best knowledge and technology to help utilities address their changing needs, and that the range of our solutions can be adapted to markets throughout the world.”

In addition to Telvent’s OMS, Singapore PowerGrid will utilize Telvent’s ArcFM Enterprise GIS solution and Esri Inc.’s ArcGIS platform. Part of this architecture features Esri Australia’s (an associate company of Esri South Asia) geographic web applications server, Dekho, to create an interactive map of its electrical grid containing real-time information. This enables the utility to respond more rapidly and accurately to power outages and maintenance issues.

“The close partnership between Esri and Telvent allows utilities around the world to take advantage of our innovative and complete solutions,” explained Leslie Wong, chief executive officer of Esri South Asia. “Together, our technology provides the maximum reliability and efficiency that utilities need to operate in the smart grid era.”
“Using Microsoft and Telvent technologies, utilities will be able to implement smarter grids faster and more reliably,” said Jon C. Arnold, managing director, Worldwide Power & Utilities Industry, Microsoft. “With ArcFM and Responder, Singapore PowerGrid gains spatial business intelligence capabilities that will enable them to improve their asset management, increase reliability, improve utility business processes and provide better customer service.”
