CPI’s carbon capture facility officially commissioned
China Power Investment’s CO2 capture facility in Hechuan, Chongqing, was officially commissioned.
The equipment, which is the largest existing CO2 capture facility in coal-fired power plants in China, can treat a maximum of 50 million standard cubic meters of flue gas every year, from which 10,000 tons of liquid CO2 can be captured and compressed to the consistency of over 99.5 percent. Applying independently developed technology and localised equipment, the facility has an investment cost of RMB 12.35 million per 10,000 tons of CO2 capture.
According to CPI, the commissioning of the 10,000 ton class CO2 capture facility will pave the way for the large-scale and systematic application of CO2 capture technology in power plants of China, and is of great significance for China’s technological advancement in reducing GHG emission, lowering cost of flue gas purification, enhancing its international competitiveness in power environmental protection, and improving its ability to address climate change and environmental management.
