
Tamil Nadu to utilize more solar power
The Tamil Nadu government will energise street lights and houses with power from the sun and set up a 50 MW solar park in public-private-partnership mode.
Presenting the AIADMK government's first budget, Finance Minister O. Pannerselvam said the government plans to energise 20,000 street lights in 200 villages at a cost of Rs.49.60 crore.
The subsidy from the central government will be Rs.11.20 crore and the balance will be funded by the state government, he revealed.
He added that the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agencywill take up the energisation of the houses with solar power at an outlay of around Rs.180 crore.
Pannerselvam said the central government subsidy will be Rs.48.60 crore and the balance will be met by the state government.
'As a part of the government's commitment towards green energy, it is proposed to establish initially a 50 MW solar park in PPP (public-private-partnership) mode through competitive bidding process,' Pannerselvam said.
