Voith Hydro Private Limited received the order from Madhya Bharat Power Corporation Limited to supply complete plant equipment for the project in Spetmebt 2011.
With the Commissioning of the project, an additional 96 Mw of clean energy will be available to the national grid. Madhya Bharat Power Corporation Limited is implementing the Rongnichu Hydro Electric Project, a run-of-the-river scheme on the river Rongnichu near Gangtok in eastern Sikkim, a state in the north-eastern region of India.
“India has a large and unutilised hydropower potential and the development of such hydro-electric projects like Rongnichu is expected to strengthen the country’s push to become self-reliant to meet the power and energy needs of an expanding economy. The energy generated by the plant will be available to the national grid,” said Amresh Dhawan, MD, Voith Hydro Pvt Ltd.
Voith will execute a two-bearing Pelton Turbine arrangement for the Rongnichu project. Two Pelton Turbines of 48 Mw each will be installed to generate power from the project.
