US firm to invest $4.6B on Japanese solar plants
SunEdison will spend around $4.56 billion on building 1,000MW of solar power plants in Japan over the next five years.
The company is a unit of U.S.-based MEMC Electronic Materials.
The move was spurred by Japan's new scheme requiring utilities are required to buy all electricity output from solar, wind, biomass, geothermal and small-sized hydro power plants at preset rates for up to 20 years, reports Reuters.
