India's power firms imports 3.366 MT of coal in Dec

Power utilities across India have imported a total 33.475 MT of coal during the first three quarters of the ongoing fiscal period.

During the month of December 2011, the power utilities imported 3.366 MT of coal, of which 1.78 MT coal was imported for plants designed on indigenous coal while the remaining was imported for plants designed on imported coal.

However, 0.593 MT of coal is still lying at various ports for delivery to various thermal power stations.
