Indian oil group to tap offshore wind power
ONGC Limited, the oil and natural gas major, is planning to set up a massive 500 MW wind farm for commercial purposes.
The plan is toset up 5 MW wind turbines and evacuate power generated from the project by sub-sea cables to shore for on-land grid connectivity.
Another 10 MW pilot project that will use 1.5 MW turbines, is also under consideration for the purposes of captive use.
ONGC is now on the lookout for a consultant to help with the preparation of the feasibility report.
ONGC western offshore field of over 800 sq.km off the Mumbai coast will play host to the wind turbines.
