NEEPCO urges MoP to convince MoP&NG for enhanced gas supply to 291 MW Assam gas based plant

In a recent turn of events, the issue of enhanced gas supply, from the existing 1.4 mmscum per day to

1.65 mmscum per day, to NEEPCO's 291 MW Assam Gas Based Power plant (AGBBP) has now been escalated to the

inter-ministerial level.
8The power company had been struggling to convince the Government of Assam (GoA) to take up the matter of

increase in gas allocation with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG). Despite repeated efforts,

the state government turned a blind eye to NEEPCO's concerns.
8Left with no other alternative, the developer has now asked the power ministry to take up this worrisome issue

with the petroleum ministry at the earliest such that the plant can operate at full load.
8In a recent communiqué with the Ministry of Power (MoP), the state-owned major informed that Oil India Limited

(OIL) has not agreed to an immediate increase in gas supply on the grounds that additional gas will be made

available based on possible discovery of new gas reserves in Assam.
8The situation at present is highly uncertain and NEEPCO has iterated that it has been able to achieve a

generation level in the range of 200 to 210 MW due to lesser gas availability from OIL and the present

calorific value of gas.
