Meralco to expand overseas

Largest Philippine power distributor eyes Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Meralco PowerGen (MGen), a subsidiary of Manila Electric Company, will be responsible for Meralco’s overseas foray.

Meralco chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said Meralco is scouting possible partnerships in Southeast Asia as part of the company’s regional expansion. He said Meralco wants a minimum stake in feasible power generation projects in the region.

“We’re looking at it but nothing specific. There’s nothing definite at this stage,” Pangilinan said.
