Top Japanese power companies unite to build thermal plant
Will build a 600,000 kilowatt coal-fired plant in Tokyo.
In a rare move, Tokyo Electric Power Company and Chubu Electric Power Company are in the final stages of negotiating the deal that will see them cooperate to build a large thermal power plant to meet the increased demand for power.
The coal-fired plant will be built at TEPCO's thermal power compound north of Tokyo. Under the deal, TEPCO will sell about 70% of the electricity to businesses in the Tokyo metropolitan area and the rest will be sold by Chubu Electric in their service area.
