China's second-largest hydropower station now operational
Xiluodu hydropower station has 13.86 GW total capacity.
It is also the world’s world's third-largest after the Three Gorges and the Itaipu hydroelectric projects.
Xiluodu’s first power generating unit officially began operating Monday after a three-day test run. The No. 13 power generating unit has a capacity of 770,000 KW.
Xiluodu hydropower station is providing electricity to the China Southern Power Grid. Construction of the hydropower station started in 2005. It is expected to be completed in 2015 with 18 power generating units.
