Gujarat bids for India’s first geothermal power plant

Among four states competing for geothermal power.

Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal are the first Indian states that plan to build geothermal power plants with capacities ranging from 3 MW to 5 MW.

A senior official of the Gujarati government said a draft policy on geothermal energy is ready. The state is also conducting research on geothermal energy and intends to build India’s first demonstration project with a capacity of 1 MW.
