Australis, wpd partner for 1.4GW offshore projects in Australia

The three projects are located in Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia.

Australis Energy Ltd. and wpd offshore Australia Holding GmbH entered a 50:50 joint venture agreement for the three offshore wind projects in Victoria, and South and Western Australia, which have a 1.4-gigawatt capacity.

In a statement, wpd said the three projects led by Australis have completed phases one and two, and the company will assist in the third phase.

The third phase involves the completion of environmental studies and environmental impact assessments, further data collection, landowner agreements, grid access agreements, and planning, permitting, and licensing.

In a separate statement, Australis said the investment by the wpd “will also facilitate the further development of the Australis offshore wind project portfolio in adjacent commonwealth waters.”

Wpd said that the company, one of the pioneers of offshore wind energy in Europe, has also established its presence in the Asia Pacific with projects in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

It is currently developing the 640-megawatt Yunlin Project in Taiwan which is poised to be one of the largest wind projects in the region once completed, it added.
