India’s installed generation capacity now 169.75 GW
The installed power generation capacity of India has surged to 1,69,748.86 MW with additional 2,635.75MW thermal capacity addition in December 2010.
According to the Central Electricity Authority, out of the total installed capacity as of December 31, 2010, thermal power plants-- powered by coal, gas, naphtha and oil-- account for around 65.41 per cent, while hydroelectric plants contribute 22.01 per cent. Nuclear power plants account for 2.68 per cent. The share of renewable power capacity is 9.89 per cent.
