Simplex may derail timely commissioning of Maithon project
Lapses of Simplex Infrastructure Limited made it difficult for BHEL to ensure commissioning of the 1,050 MW Maithon thermal power project.
At a recently held meeting to review the Joint Action Plan of Power Projects executed by BHEL, it has informed that although it is striving hard to achieve capacity addition by March end, the non readiness of the coal handling plant and the chimney by SIL are affecting the progress of this project.
The Ministry of Power has requested the Central Electricity Authority to monitor the situation closely and ensure achievement of capacity addition in March 2011 without any further slippage.
MPL has acquired the 1,120 acres of land needed for the project at Maithon village, in the Dhanbad district of Jharkhand. The developer has also acquired all necessary permits and clearances, as well as open access for the evacuation of power from this project to the northern region grid. The Ministry of Coal has granted long-term coal linkage to this project from nearby BCCL mines. The project has been bestowed with the `Mega Power Project` status, under the Mega Power Policy of the Government of India.
