India approves proposed master plan to develop 50 solar cities

India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy said in a statement that sanctions have been issued for 50 cities including Agra, Amritsar, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Fardiabad, Gurgaon, Howrah, Kochi, Madhyamgram, New Delhi, and New Town.
"The program aims at minimum 10% reduction in projected demand of conventional energy at the end of five years, which can be achieved through a combination of energy efficiency measures and enhancing supply from renewable energy sources," MNRE said in a public guideline statement.
