NHPC on track for timely commissioning of 132 MW Teesta HEP
NHPC is ensuring that erection of radial gate for bay-6 proceeds smoothly for a timely commissioning of its 132 MW Teesta Low Dam stage-III hydro electric project.
The rest of the HM works at the site are progressing as per schedule, with erection of radial gates already completed in bays 4, 5 and 7 and that for bay-3 progressing swiftly. However, the concreting works at barrage bays 1 and 2, out of a total of 7 bays, are yet to be completed.
With respect to power house works, NHPC has exceeded all targets set for the month of August. With a scheduled plan to achieve 250 cum and 300 cum of concreting in PH and TRC floor respectively, NHPC accomplished 336 cum and 365 cum of concreting during the month. In light of the progress made in all spheres, the first unit of the project is on track to be commissioned by May 2012.
The Teesta-III project envisages the construction of a 32.5 m high barrage across the Teesta river and a 125 m x 22 m x 56 m surface power house, with four Kaplan turbine generator units, of 33 MW capacity, each. The project would afford an annual energy generation of 594.07 million units (MU), assuming 90% performance.
