Asia Pacific leads solar and hydro tender activity in Q3

The region made up 77.4% of solar power tenders issued during the quarter.

The Asia Pacific region led activity for both solar and hydropower tenders in July to September 2019, according to analytics firm GlobalData.

The Asia Pacific held the top position in the space for solar tenders with 243 tenders and a share of 77.4% during Q3 2019, followed by Middle East and Africa (27 tenders and an 8.6% share) and North America (20 tenders and a 6.4% share).

Indian utilities were the top issuers of tenders in solar technology, with Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) having procured 3,072.52MW from five tenders, followed by NHPC with 2,000MW from one tender and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (India) with 1,880MW capacity from 30 tenders.

Boost in hydro tenders
The region also held the top position in the space for hydropower technology tenders with 33 tenders and a share of 71.7% during Q3 2019, followed by Middle East and Africa (seven tenders and a 15.2% share) and North America (four tenders and an 8.7% share).

Jammu & Kashmir Power Development Department of India was the second largest issuer of hydropower tenders globally for Q3 2019, having procured 12MW from one tender.
