Kyushu's slump now at six months
Kyushu Electric registered electric sales of about 6,943 million kWh for February 2009, down by 7.4 percent from February 2008. The sales volume was below the previous year's level for six months in a row.
Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc.’s sales for the "General Demand" category in February 2009 decreased by 1.5 percent from February 2008 due to a decrease in the air-conditioning demand as the temperature in late January through February was higher than the previous year’s level. The sales volume underperformed the previous year for the first time in two months.
The decreased sales in main industries including electric and transportation machinery and steel and iron brought sales volume in the "Large-Scale Customers" category down by 23.6 percent from the previous year. The sales volume underperformed the previous year for five months in a row.
