The company has already deployed smart metres to 75,000 customers.
Tata Power Mumbai Distribution is planning to install smart metres for all its 750,000 (7.5 lac) customers in the City by the financial year 2025, with over 75,000 customers already having theirs installed.
In a statement, the company said it is accelerating smart metres installation which includes the integration of a backend infrastructure for the one lakh smart metering points with end-to-end billing, customer relationship management, and a Geographical Information System within six months.

“With Smart meter data analytics, consumers can optimize their consumption and ensure savings in their energy bills. These meters are providing customers real-time understanding of the power consumption on an hourly, daily and monthly basis,” said Nilesh Kane, chief of Mumbai Distribution at Tata Power.
“Valuable data analytics and benchmarking derived from the smart meters are being provided to customers for energy audits and better energy management making sustainable lifestyle attainable for them," he added.
This move is in line with the Government’s National Smart Grid Mission which targets to speed up smart metres deployment.
According to Tata Power, smart metres will modernise the grid as it reduced aggregate technical and commercial losses, real-time energy audits, and reduce carbon footprints, amongst others.
