
Toshiba JV to supply equipment to Indian super thermal plant
Toshiba JSW Turbine and Generator will supply equipment for the Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-I, in Karnataka, India.
The value of the contract from state-owned energy service provider NTPC is estimated at Rs23 bilion or US$468.6 million. Under the terms of the agreement, the firm will supply three 800MW supercritical steam turbine and generator island packages for the project.
Toshiba JSW has recently opened its main plant facility in Chennai, India, where it will manufacture the complete steam turbine and generator equipment for the project, with power capacities ranging from 500-1,000MW; units produced at this site will also be used for the Indian and export markets.
Delivery of the equipment is expected to start in 2013.
Japan-based Toshiba Keihin Product Operations will also supply some components for the project.
Toshiba Group has delivered 65 supercritical steam turbines and generators units in Japan and 18 units overseas.
Toshiba JSW JV is a 75:25 joint venture between Japan-based Toshiba Corporation and India based conglomerate JSW Group.
