
Bangladesh to get 500MW from India by July 2013
Formalities to import electricity from India has been completed by the government of Bangladesh, thereby allowing its national grid to get 500-megawatt by July 2013.
According to Bangladesh Power Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, the tariff of power to be imported from India by Bangladesh will change from time to time as per Indian law and Bangladesh can place its opinion to the Indian Central Electricity Regulatory Commission when any revision will be made.
Dhaka signed the PPA with New Delhi to import the 250 MW power for 25-year tenure at a tariff of Rs 2.40 per kilowatt hour.
The price is equivalent to Tk 4. Bangladesh is constructing a transmission line to import the power from India at a cost of Tk 1,100 crore.
