
India's outlay for power sector up by 46%
India Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee increased the budgetary support for the power sector to US$1.945 billion for 2011-12.
This is represents a 12 per cent increase from the US$1.742 billion allocated in 2009-10.
This also includes the budgetary support extended for the power ministry's rural electrification scheme.
Including budgetary outlays and IEBR, the budget for the power sector stands at US$147.3 billion, representing a 46 per cent jump over the revised expenditure estimates of US$10.13 billion for 2010-11.
The Union Budget has proposed raising the plan outlay for central public sector units in power sector to about US$7.9 billion.
