
Tamil Nadu eyes 4,300 MW capacity additon in FY13
Tamil Nadu is targeting to add 4,300 MW of generation capacity in financial year 2012-13, to address massive power shortage.
The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission will likely commission all upcoming generating stations during the current fiscal year.
Units II and I of North Chennai TPS, with 600 MW, will be commissioned on June and October, 2012, repestively.
The 600MW Unit II of North Chennai TPS is scheduled for June, 2012.
Meanwhile, Units I and II of Vallur TPS, with 500 MW, wil be copmmissioned on March 2012 and February 2013, respectively. Its Unit III of Vallur TPS, also with 500 MW, is also underway. Out of the total 1,500 MW capacity of this Vallur Thermal Power Station, 1,075 MW is allocated to Tamil Nadu.
Mettur TPS stage-III's 600 MW will be commissioned this year, with 300 MW by March 2012, and the remaining 300 MW by June 2012.
Units I and II of Neyveli Lignite Corporation TS expansion II, with 250 MW each, are scheduled on March 2012 and September 2012, with only 195.5 MW allocated to Tamil Nadu.
Finally, tjhere is the Madras Atomic Power Station additional prototype fast breeder reactor Kalpakkam with 500 MW, scheduled on May 2012 with 142MW allocated to Tami Nadu.
