Indian Oil Corporation wins COVID Management Initiative of the Year in the Asian Oil and Gas Awards

IndianOil Corporation’s frontline teams of retail, aviation, and LPG officers ensured seamless business continuity with the provision of essential fuels across the nation during peak pandemic times.

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. has won the COVID Management Initiative of the Year in the Asian Oil and Gas Awards. In its inaugural year, the awards aim to recognise the best of the best in the oil and gas industry in the Asia Pacific region that have risen above various challenges and remained steadfast despite a very challenging environment.

In the face of a massive surge in demand for medical oxygen during the Covid-19 pandemic, IndianOil has diverted the high-purity oxygen used in its Mono Ethylene Glycol Unit to produce medical-grade liquid oxygen at its Panipat Refinery & Petrochemical Complex.

Reiterating its duty as a social enterprise aside from being a business entity, the company has supplied around 270 metric tons of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) per day in Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab hospitals. They imported 500 metric tons of LMO during this period and coordinated Singapore, China and West Asia for the procurement. IndianOil has also deployed over 200 ISO containers and tankers of LMO from various sources and devoted its 20 cryogenic road tankers at its cryogenic plant in Nasik for this initiative.

To further streamline the medical oxygen supply scenario, they also launched Sanjeevani Express, a single-window application. This platform enabled real-time monitoring of liquid oxygen supply logistics to help all stakeholders to monitor allocation, dispatch, and receipt of medical oxygen.

IndianOil also bolstered the country’s COVID-19 vaccination programme by supplementing the available Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) infrastructure in the four States of Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Manipur, for the storage and transportation of vaccines. As a result of these efforts, IndianOil vaccinated around 651,000 people including their employees, contractual workforce, channel partners, and stakeholders.

In order to extend a helping hand to the family of contract workers and the workforce of business partners, the company provided medical insurance cover for COVID-19 to its 323,000 employees who are exposed to the risk of contracting COVID-19. They have also ensured ex-gratia assistance of ₹5 lakhs to the family of any such worker, who lost their life due to COVID-19. Moreover, health kits, food, and clothing were provided by IndianOil to the stranded labourers, daily wage workers, and homeless families.

With an aim to help, support and enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of its employees, IndianOil has also launched “Paramarsh”, an employee assistance program that will help them deal with issues and complications that could adversely affect their wellbeing and impact their on-job performance.

A telemedicine app has also been developed by IndianOil for its former and current employees and their family members for online medical consultation to provide them timely medical advice and to also prevent overcrowding in hospitals. The app contains details of 32 company doctors and 210 doctors associated with different locations across India to provide teleconsultation services.

IndianOil vaccinated around 7,00,000 people against Covid-19. These include IndianOil employees, contractual workforce, channel partners and stakeholders.

Within the organisation, IndianOil has released around 40 advisories in different languages which have been circulated through various mediums to ensure maximum reach. Covid awareness films have also been prepared which are being played at various IndianOil offices, installations, customer touchpoints etc. Awareness about wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, maintaining hygienic practices like washing hands, using sanitisers etc. have been installed and are being circulated regularly through digital media.
