BHEL concludes works at Koteshwar HEP
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has concluded rectification works of the generator shaft at unit-3 of THDC's 400 MW Koteshwar hydroelectric project. The works have been delayed for more than a month.
The new generator shaft reached the project site in the second week of August and will now be used in place of the damaged shaft in the unit.
To add to THDC's woes, the contractor was forced to put the trial assembly of turbine on hold to fix the problem of excess clearance between top cover and guide vanes.
The Koteshwar HEP, a run-off-river scheme over the Bhagirathi river with minimum diurnal storage, is comprised of a 97.5 m high concrete gravity dam and a surface power house, with four turbines of 100 MW capacity, each, at Koteshwar, 22 km downstream of the Tehri dam. This HEP is an integral part of the 2400 MW Tehri hydro power complex.
